Curbside Waste Collection

The City of Seneca requests that customers separate their curbside waste into separate and distinct piles to ensure efficient collection and to assist city staff in meeting state guidelines enforced by Oconee County Landfill. Curbside Waste will only be collected from residential properties with three or fewer dwelling units.
Curbside waste should adhere to the following guidelines:

Bulky Waste and Yard Waste

  • Placement

    • Curbside waste should be placed in the right-of-way on the owner’s or tenant’s property that it was generated from.

    • Curbside waste should be placed no closer than 5 feet from any obstructions.

    • Curbside waste should NOT be placed under any utility lines or tree limbs with less than 20 feet of overhead clearance.

  • No Commingling of Waste Types

    • Curbside waste should be separated into alike piles (i.e. leaves piled separately, grass clippings piled separately, limbs piled separately, brown goods and white goods items piled separately)

    • Each waste pile should be separated by at least 5 feet from any other pile or obstruction.

  • Yard Waste

    • Limited one distinct pile per alike material at any one time (leaves, grass, limbs)

    • The cumulative volume of yard waste placed at the curb should NOT exceed 3 cubic yards.

    • Limbs, cuttings, shrubbery, etc., should NOT exceed 6 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length.

    • The City will NOT collect bagged leaves and/or bagged grass clippings from the curbside.

    • Any yard waste resulting from the use of a commercial contractor is required to be properly disposed of by that contractor.

  • Brown Goods and White Goods

    • Brown Goods means large, discarded furniture and other items incident to the normal conduct of a household including, but not limited to, mattresses, box springs, sofas, chairs, tables and dressers.

    • White Goods means large, discarded household appliances including, but not limited to, refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, dishwashers, microwaves, washers, dryers and air conditioners.

    • Items small enough to be properly placed into the city-provided waste container (roll-cart) shall not be placed at the curb for collection by the city.

    • No more than a cumulative total of four White Goods and/or Brown Boods items, not to exceed a total volume of three cubic yards, shall be located near the property line for collection at any time.

Construction & Demolition Debris

The city will NOT collect construction or demolition debris from the curbside. Such materials or refuse should be collected and disposed of by the property owner or the person/company doing the work.

  • ·         Building Materials means any material such as lumber, brick, block, stone, plaster, concrete, asphalt, roofing shingles, gutters and other substances accumulated as the result of repairs or additions to existing buildings or structures, construction of new buildings or structures, or the demolition of existing buildings or structures.

Cardboard

Cardboard boxes, products and/or waste will NOT be collected by the city unless broken down into the smallest practicable footprint and properly placed in the residential or commercial user’s roll-cart or bulk container.

Electronic Waste

Electronic Waste will NOT be collected by the city. The disposal of Electronic Waste is the responsibility of the property owner or tenant responsible for generating the waste.

Many electronic waste items must be recycled or disposed of in accordance with SC Code of Laws 48-60-05.
